Google Gesture Search – Coming to an Android Mobile Near You

mobilephonevoicecommand 300x213 Google Gesture Search – Coming to an Android Mobile Near YouNow, here is an app I’m going to love. Yesterday, Google announced the launch of their new mobile phone search interaction tool – the Gesture Search. In lieu of a press or speech-driven search, you can now draw your way towards what you’re looking for. For instance, if you want to phone Michael, draw an “M” on the screen and you’ll receive a list of items with words beginning with “M”.  Don’t worry if you’re handwriting isn’t all that, Google Search is intuitive. If your “H” looks like an “A”, the application will bring up results for both letters.

This latest offering from Google is just one of many great search applications they’ve provided: I love the Search by Voice application as well – although, you can feel a bit strange speaking to your mobile when you’re in public (unless you’re in some place like New York or Los Angeles of course, where everyone else is doing it too). Then there is Google Suggest, which brings up suggested queries or nearby businesses as you enter your search terms.  Search History allows you to go back through recent searches, while My Location saves where you are, so that you can bypass that information when searching for local restaurants, businesses, shops, or what have you.

Google Search is easy to use and available for download to anyone who has a mobile phone running on Android 2.0 or higher.  If you’re interested, you can download the app at the Android Market.
