But consumers risk losing out on as much as £71 a phone according to the latest SellMyMobile.com Recycling Value Countdown
Despite last month’s flurry of Apple iPhone sales, Nokia has once again become the most popular phone to recycle in the UK, with seven smartphones making it into the top ten. The latest figures from mobile phone recycling price comparison site SellMyMobile.com’s Recycling Value Countdown for July 2010, highlight the popularity of the smartphone industry with customers selling older models in order to upgrade to the latest smartphones.
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is once again the most recycled phone, with a potential value of £78.01. The Blackberry Curve 8900 also makes it into the top ten alongside the Apple iPhone 3Gs (16GB) and Apple iPhone 3G (8GB) which is the second most recycled phone with a potential value of £145.50. The Nokia E71 is third, followed by the N97 and N96 across the UK’s most popular mobile phone recyclers.
July’s Countdown from SellMyMobile.com has found that owners of the top 10 mobiles with the biggest recycling discrepancies could be losing out on an astonishing £711.04 for their old devices by not shopping around. SellMyPhone, proved to be the most generous of all recyclers, offering three of the best prices in the top 10 discrepancies.
Keir McConomy, MD of SellMyMobile.com, commented, “A recent consumer research study conducted by SellMyMobile.com found that there are as many as 68 million unwanted old mobile devices lying around UK households, there’s no question that we are sitting on a potential treasure trove of billions of pounds worth of old phones that Brits could cash in. “
