The big four networks have apparently decided to put their differences aside and work together to launch 4G technology.

While EE has been doing all the running with this, it seems that the company is prepared to work closer with the other three major network businesses – Vodafone, O2 and Three UK – to get moving on this very important upgrade.

Previously all companies have been threatening each other with legal action over the auctioning of 4G licences. EE was even singled out favourably by Ofcom, much to the chagrin of the other networks.

Commentators believe, however, that this unprecedented support for one company at the expense of the others has forced the other three networks to lay down their arms, so to speak. One even accused all the network operators of acting like babies.

EE is expected to be rolling out 4G in 16 cities from 30^th October. Prices for the new service are also expected to be released this week, possibly on Tuesday.

Whether this will cause another round of aggravation is not yet known. It could do, as EE will have had a six-month head start with the roll out plan.

This news also comes as Ofcom itself has announced a big shake-up over contracts and the costs customers are forced to pay for the current 3G system. The regulator wants prices to be cut and penalties withdrawn if a customer decides to leave.

If this happens, EE will be likely to be in a better position that the other three networks, as price is often the determinant when choosing a new service.
