Recent research suggests that the UK is sitting on a recycling fortune to the tune of £2.7 billion. It seems many British families are not recycling their old mobile phones. Instead, they are leaving them lying around to simply gather dust.

As is usual in the mobile phone world, much of the information gleaned by commentators is based on rumour, speculation and leaks. The latest story is apparently news about two new Sony Ericsson smartphones.

A row is brewing over the discovery by two mobile phone users of Apple’s location software. In response to the criticism that the software could be an invasion of people’s privacy, Steve Jobs said the logging of people’s movements was a software ‘bug’ and a misunderstanding.

Yet another potential lawsuit by Apple has surfaced. This time, the iPhone manufacturer wants to sue mobile phone maker, Samsung over perceived patent infringements.
The argument surrounds Apple’s contention that Samsung’s Galaxy range of devices including smartphones and tablets are using technologies first designed and patented by Apple. In short, Apple accuses Samsung of blatant copying and offered images of its iPhone 3GS and the Samsung Galaxy S i9000 as evidence.

Microsoft have finally released an update to the Windows Phone 7 operating system. However it doesn’t include the multitasking features everyone was expecting.
Called NoDo, it does however feature copy and paste, which was something that was anticipated. To make use of this feature, you tap on the words, wait for some arrows to appear, select the text you want and select copy. This is apparently similar to the procedure used with Android and Apple’s iOS platforms.

By trading in your old Apple iPad you could net around £270 at the moment, however, it is very important to be able to sell it as quickly as possible as the price of the old iPad is set to drop by up to 20%.

Google is now the most popular search engine facility for the internet both on computers and smartphones and it’s just got better for Apple iPhone users.

While the Apple iPhone and Android handsets have had far more news coverage, RIM’s Blackberry still tops the UK best seller lists in January 2011. It also has 55 million subscribers globally.

Mobile phone network company Three UK has announced that a number of HTC handsets will become available from April onwards. These include the Desire S, Wildfire S and the HTC ChaCha.
