Firefox Now Available For the iPhone And iPod Touch
Mozilla Firefox has announced that its popular browser used in thousands of computers is now available to download from Apple iTunes Applications Store.
Known as the Firefox Home application it allows iPhone and iPod users to synchronise their bookmarks and Firefox history. Users can also synchronise recently opened tabs between their computer and their mobile handset.
It should be pointed out however, that the application is not a ‘true’ web browser. Unlike Opera Mini users, Firefox Home users cannot search the web or create a bookmark for web sites visited.
Although this is an important restriction, Firefox Home users can look at their favourite web sites directly on their handset. It is also possible via the ‘awesome bar’ to find recently visited sites by simply typing a keyword.
In a blog post Jay Sullivan, a senior executive at Mozilla said: “Firefox enables hundreds of millions of people all over the world to each have a web experience that’s unique.
“They can make Firefox look and feel the way they want with add-ons and personas.
“But the world is changing. People access the web from many devices, including their mobile phones. We’re building services that make the user experience more personal, portable and privacy-protected while providing developers with a platform and tools that are easy, effective and extensible.”
In order to use Firefox Home, users have to install the Firefox Sync add-on to their desktop version of Firefox. Doing so synchronise bookmarks and passwords already stored.
