Gingerbread Update Suspended

gingerbread1 Gingerbread Update SuspendedIf you use a Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, and are waiting for an update to Gingerbread, then you will have to wait a little longer as it has been suspended.

The reason for the suspension is not clear. Some suggest a technical issue while others think there may be a user problem. Either way, consumers will once more feel let down by Google who over the past 12 months have had constant issues surrounding the roll out of Android updates. It was hoped that the 2.3 upgrade would go without a hitch this time, but alas no.

A spokesperson for Vodafone has confirmed that the upgrade of the Samsung Galaxy S to Gingerbread has been suspended.  They have also stated that this means that the Vodafone specific upgrade wouldn’t be available for users to download as previously detailed.

Vodafone however are as much in the dark as its customers it seems, since the spokesperson said the network was working closely with Samsung to get the issue resolved as quickly as possible.

How long this takes is also not known, but no doubt Vodafone management will be as impatient as their customers so will be doing all they can to get it sorted.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S2 is expected to be released earlier than thought – the 27th April in fact.

And the first retailer will be Phones4U. A spokesperson told mobilechoiceuk.com: “We’re really proud to be the first retailer to offer the Samsung Galaxy S2 to our customers…and we’re confident [it] will be just as successful as its predecessor.”
