Launch of the Gune Web Search Engine
Mobile phones are fast moving away from being a device just for making telephone calls or sending texts. Instead, they have become fully functioning mini computers.
The latest application to hit the streets is the Gune mobile search engine; the word gune is Basque for ‘my origin’.
Launched by Handcase, Gune will allow mobile internet surfers to search “other websites and generates a single page of result,” in the same as laptop or desktop web searching.
That said, it is not that widely available as the engine is optimised only for use in smartphones and small screen mobile phones.
Ricardo Garay, CEO of Handcase said: “The goal here was to optimize the time of the User and aims to provide a superior experience with search.”
Currently the search engine only provides search results in English. However, plans are underway for Spanish and Portuguese versions as well.
Search results are single page and are displayed in lists of ten results per search, with a search engine box provided at the top and bottom of the page.
Garay is keen to see the development of a community around the company’s associated Gune directory,
He said: “Gune is designed so that everyone could contribute to the directory, so who have, or know a website mobile, just visit the website for the PC and give your tip. Once checked and approved it goes to the directory.”
At the moment searches can be made only via Google or Bing.
