Mobile Phones Becoming Flexible – Literally

Touch Phone Mobile Phones Becoming Flexible – LiterallySamsung has announced that it intends to launch a flexible, bendable mobile phone in 2012.  Called the Samsung Galaxy Skin it is said to feature a high resolution 800×480 AMOLED display that will permit the handset to bend around a 1 inch diameter cylinder.  The AMOLED screen is also believed to be brighter and more energy efficient than previous versions.

Other specifications, which according to experts could be featured, include an 8 megapixel camera and 1 GB of RAM plus a 1.2GHz processor.

How does Samsung intend developing this new handset?  It seems that the key to it is the material used in its manufacture. Called graphene it is being researched and developed by scientists at Columbia University in the USA.  A spokesperson at the research facility told the Daily Telegraph: “[Graphene is] some 200 times stronger than structural steel.”

What about the operating system?

Samsung is tight lipped about this.  But some experts think it could be the successor of the Ice Cream Sandwich.  There is a choice of two possible options for this upgrade.  There are some suggestions that the operating system in question will be the newest OS called Jelly Bean, while there are already rumours that Android has appropriately named a future platform after this phone’s key feature and called it Android Flexy.

Samsung hasn’t announced any specific information about when the Galaxy Skin will be available, but commentators think it won’t be too far into the future when it arrives in the UK.  The company has hinted though that this will sometime in 2012.
