New Motorola handset available
If you are looking for a mobile phone which is not all bells and whistles then the Motorola Gleam maybe just what you want.
The handset is available from Tesco at just £10 per month on a 24-month contract.
The handset itself is not what you would call state of the art. It is essentially quite basic, and is aimed at customers who are not into every kind of facility a modern smartphone offers. Rather, it is a throwback. It is a phone for making telephone calls.
The Gleam does possess other features, however, such as a two-megapixel camera. There is also an FM radio and MP3 player. Other features include WAP 2.0 for browsing, but not 3G connectivity or Wi-Fi, plus a rather small 2.8-inch WQVGA screen; most smartphone displays are around the four-inch size nowadays.
The design is also a bit of a throwback: it is clamshell.
As well as being free from Tesco on contract, it is also possible to buy the Motorola Gleam outright for around £80 for use on pay as you go.
In other news, LG has manufactured a new L series of phones, which it was apparently keen to show off recently. They are the L3, L5 and L7, and from all accounts they do not disappoint. The L3 is said to be the budget device, while the L7 is reported to be top of the range with an eight-megapixel camera and a 4.3-inch display screen. The L5 is slightly smaller at just four inches.
LG has not said so far when the handsets will be officially released.
