New Taxi Service Launched in London

TAXI New Taxi Service Launched in LondonYou may well be wondering what this has got to do with mobile phones, but it seems that Vodafone has hit upon a new idea that not only gives customers a new service but gets the brand out on the streets – literally.

The new fleet of Vodafone-branded taxis will feature support for mobile phone payment points, so riders can pay for their journey using their handset. Although this is not near field communication yet, it comes pretty close. For example, users simply send a text message to the taxi number, and are charged accordingly.

Uniquely, each taxi will also possess a charging point inside the cab, so that you can charge your device if necessary.

Speaking with knowyourmobile.com, Vodafone’s UK Chief Executive said: “We are committed to offering London the best possible network. We have already made hundreds of improvements to increase coverage, capacity and reliability to ensure Londoners can always stay in touch with friends and family.”

He added: “Now with our fantastic fleet of Union Jack cabs and their on-board chargers which anyone can use, all Londoners will be able to see our continuing commitment to the capital.”

London taxis are not the only mode of transport to get the Vodafone branding; trains will also get the same treatment. The company has said that customers will soon be able to make use of the same service on a number of London’s Heathrow Express trains. What’s more the new service is available from next week.
