Nokia Lumia 900 a success in the US
This will be great news for the beleaguered Finnish outfit, which rolled out its 4G-enabled Windows handset very recently.
However, what is perhaps more surprising is that the Lumia 900 beat some very good smartphones to take top spot. These include the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G and Samsung’s 4G Galaxy SII; Apple’s iPhone is not listed.
There is further good news for Nokia and, by inference, Microsoft. It seems that many offline retailers are also having success in selling this new device.
Nokia has put great store by its Windows phone handsets, meaning that any failure in retailing the devices could well spell financial disaster for the Finnish company. Many experts believe that Nokia is ripe for a takeover (more than likely by its own partner – Microsoft), so anything other than a taking a good percentage (and growing) market share will not be welcomed.
The news in the USA does, on the surface at least, give Nokia some much-needed breathing space. It will also convince sceptics that the company was right to ditch its Symbian platform in favour of Microsoft’s Windows Phone software.
The Lumia 900 is one of a number of Lumia series handsets released by Nokia. Others no doubt will be launched over the coming months, particularly if the predecessors are successful.
