Nokia N9 Gets UK Release After All
For the last couple of days, it has been up in the air as to whether or not the Nokia N9 would be released in the UK. The decision has finally been made – in about two weeks the Nokia N9 will become available within the United Kingdom through Expansys.
Until recently, the MeeGo-powered smartphone was not going to get an official UK release. That has officially changed as the handset is shown as “coming soon” on the manufacturer’s website and interested users can pre-order now.
While this is all good news for the United Kingdom, the rest of Europe may not be so lucky. As recently as this past Saturday, 13th August, Nokia removed the handset from sale in Germany. Though nothing has been announced, it is looking likely that other European countries will soon follow.
If you’re wondering why there’s been all this commotion over the Nokia N9, it’s a long story. First and foremost, the N9 is the one and only MeeGo mobile phone that the company has produced – and probably will be the only one. Nokia hasn’t been happy with the OS despite all the praise it has received.
Though the Nokia N9 will be made available in the UK in the coming weeks, there is no official announcement concerning its price. It’s looking like the phone will be an Expansys exclusive which means they could end up charging whatever amount they please for it.
One thing to note – there is no indication that Nokia will be releasing the handset with any UK networks which means if you want the N9 you’ll have to pay the full SIM-free price for the device. – possibly in excess of £400.
