sony ericsson1 Pictures of Sony Ericsson’s Playstation Phone LeakedAlthough no date when this new device will be available is known, it is good to see that it does exist. And by all accounts the handset is impressive. The release is thought to be 2011 and it is also rumoured to be running Android 3.
You may well be wondering what all the fuss is about but for those of you who still enjoy using a Sony Playstation, you will be pleased. Combining this ‘old’ technology with a mobile phone is novel and is likely to attract newer customers as well as possibly more seasoned people.
According to reports, the new hybrid device features a slide out panel with what some in the industry has called ‘playstation-esque’ controls. The other more recognisable features are a 1GHz Qualcomm chipset inside, along with 512MB of RAM and1GB of ROM.
Sony Ericsson also say that accompanying this new handset will be an online ‘games station’ or market place.
Earlier in the year, Sony also announced that it intended building a number of devices which they hope will compete more effectively with Apple. Speaking in a press release the Chief Executive Officer of Sony Ericsson, Howard Stringer said: “Sony will be introducing an Apple-alike web-based service [and] a new range of portable devices.”
A source from Sony also said: “Sony is looking to square-off against Apple with a new line of portable devices, including a smartphone before the end of this year.” The new Playstation phone is the result it seems.
