Possible arrival of not one but two tablets

Motorola Xoom Possible arrival of not one but two tabletsJust like the old saying about waiting for one bus and two arrive, it seems that the same thing could be about to apply to tablet devices.

A little while ago it was suggested that Google had managed to secure an exclusive budget tablet in the UK; however, experts believe that the Nexus 7, as it is known, may not be the only one after all.

Seemingly Amazon is also about to launch its well-publicised Kindle Fire 2 next month. This was thought to be a US-based product, but now the company appears to want to sell it in Britain too.

Not much is known as yet about the Kindle Fire 2, except that it possesses a seven-inch screen with a higher resolution than the previous version of 1,280 x 800 pixels. There is also a suggestion that it features a camera and volume controls that can be physically manipulated, which is a novelty given the penchant these days for all things virtual.

Originally Amazon said that the Kindle Fire 2 was not going to come to Britain, but if this latest rumour is right it could arrive in UK stores by 31st July at the earliest.

As for price, this is not known. Given that the US version is priced at around $149, the likelihood is that the cost will be similar in the UK, if not a little cheaper.

While Kindle is popular with many people, the Kindle Fire was criticised when it was first launched for not allowing users to search anything other than Amazon’s own store.

If so, could this help Google’s Nexus 7 gain a foothold?
