If you are at all religious, in particular Roman Catholic, then you might be interested to learn that there are a number of applications available. And even if you’re not, they could be useful for those who enjoy history or culture.
Most are for the iPhone or iPod Touch and range in value from just 59 pence to £4.99
For instance, in conjunction with the visit of Pope Benedict 16th ‘Popes’ is a historical encyclopaedia of all the Popes starting from Peter down to the present day. The application comes complete with photos and pictures as well as biographical details.
‘Mass Times’ uses geo location software to locate Roman Catholic Churches in your vicinity. As well giving you a map, details of services are also shown. In an unfamiliar town this will prove useful.
Also available for the iPhone or iPod Touch is the ‘iICE’. This particular piece of software asks you to record the details of contacts in case of emergency. A spokesman for the creators of the software said in a press release: “This app allows people to list an emergency contact, as well as details of their medical history or prescription tablets they are taking.
“Crucially, it also allows them to list their religion as Catholic, and request the presence of a priest to administer the Last Rites if their condition is life-threatening.”
The software was created in the aftermath of the 7/7 bombings in London.
Finally, available for the Android phone is ‘Catholic Dictionary’, a useful dictionary for everything Roman Catholic.
