It seems that sales of the Amazon Kindle Fire account for over half of all Android tablet sales. Perhaps even more incredible is that these results are just from six months’ sales figures.

A spokesperson from the research company ComScore said: “The Kindle Fire now makes up 54.4% of the total Android Market (as of the end of the month) after just six months on the market.”

The Kindle Fire is an American device manufactured specifically for Amazon. Unlike the previous tablet, the new version is essentially Amazon driven with users searching the internet for products being forced to Amazon’s website rather than anywhere else.

However, despite this obvious restriction, it is a remarkable feat for any business to manage to capture half of a particular market in such a short space of time.

The spokesperson added: “Kindle Fire remains the number one best-selling, most gifted, and most wished for product across the millions of items available on Amazon.com since launch.”

Will there be a UK launch?

Unfortunately, Amazon has refused so far to confirm or deny whether the company intends launching the tablet in Britain. However, experts think that it is highly likely that the Kindle Fire will be offered to UK consumers at some time in the future. The same experts also believe that Amazon, having had a taste of success with this and its previous tablet, may move into the smartphone market.

In the US, the Kindle Fire is also half the price of Apple’s iPad and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1.
