Sony Ericsson To Work More Closely With Parent Company
Although Sony Ericsson has been manufacturing more and more Android powered mobile phones, the company still intends building Symbian operated handsets. Only this time, they will be working with the Japanese parent company, Sony.
In an interview with Mobile Magazine Sony Ericsson’s Managing Director in the UK, Nathan Vautier said: “I can say that our relationship with Sony will continue to get closer and stronger. There is a huge amount of excitement at the possibilities. It is about how we can use each other in the right way.”
He added: “We want to make our phones the most entertaining. To do that we need to use content in the right way, and one thing we have within our family is the wealth of content that Sony has.”
Nathan Vautier also emphasised that Sony wants to move the company more towards being “a distributor of music, movies and media, integrating functionality into future devices.”
With this in mind he was asked about the existence of the rumoured Playstation Phone. Unfortunately he wouldn’t be drawn on this.
The Sony eStore is also a well known provider of eBooks and other similar digital media, including over 1 million public domain titles, so the move towards using mobile technology is not a surprise.
That said Sony Ericsson emphasise that the company’s primary focus is still manufacturing Android handsets. Nathan Vautier said: “Android is where we feel we can drive and bring a lot of exciting products to market, so it is the core platform for us.”
