The Dress That Thinks It’s A Mobile Phone
In a scientific break though, a new dress has been designed that also doubles up as a mobile phone. What’s more it’s about to be launched in the UK.
It works by using gesture software installed in a SIM card; the card is slipped under the label of the dress. When you raise your hand to you ear you can pick up a call. Drop your hand to your side and the call ends.
Gesture recognition is one of the latest developments in computer science whereby human gestures or body movements are used to enable the operation of computer software.
Called the M-Dress it was designed by fashion company Cute Circuit. Made from a dark jersey material the antenna is stitched into the hem of the dress. The company says the dress length is just above the knee in order to reduce any radiation exposure emitted.
In a message on their website, Cute Circuit said: “Very often phone calls are missed because mobile phones are quite awkward to carry, especially for women that have garments with small or no pockets. To allow women to stay connected while remaining stylish, Cute Circuit designed the M-Dress. A mobile phone in its own right but built out of soft circuitry.”
At the moment the technology is limited. Cute Circuit told reporters that “the garment can only call a limited number of pre-programmed contacts.”
Cute Circuit expect the dress to be launched in 2011. No price details are available.
