Two New Phones On The Orange Network
Two new handsets – the Samsung Galaxy S and HTC TouchPro 2 will be available very shortly on the Orange network.
The Galaxy S features a 4 inch AMOLED touchscreen, HD Video capture and a 5 megapixel camera. It also has a 1GH microprocessor and runs on Android 2.1 operating system.
In contrast, HTC’s TouchPro 2 has a slightly smaller 3.6 inch TFT-LCD touch-sensitive screen, QWERTY slide-out keyboard, HSPDA at 7.2 Mbps and 3G connectivity. It also runs Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system.
Some commentators have said that while the TouchPro 2 is a fine device, the recent improvements to the iPhone and the Android operating system might make the handset a little dated.
As well as Orange, the Galaxy S will also be available on other networks. However no details of pricing etc have been released.
In other news Nokia has been giving a demonstration of its newest operating system – the MeeGo – which is a collaborative project with Intel Corporation. The first outing of the new system however was on a tablet rather than a mobile phone.
Despite this the demonstration went well apparently showing it to run smoothly, the tablet showing a very responsive multi-touch interface. It also handled multi tasking easily.
Whether the MeeGo will be used in any of Nokia’s mobile phones is not known. It may not, considering the current standard Symbian system is still popular; it is the chosen operating system for Nokia’s new N8 handset.
